 Who we are
Devoted is an a-cappella gospel choir, founded at King’s and part of the Church of Loughborough. We are a bunch of people who simply love to worship God with our singing voices.
What we do
Our focus is an upward one and an outward one. We lift up the name of Jesus in our praises so that people might see and know who He is. We don’t seek glory for ourselves, only to raise a platform of praise on which God can perform. He’s the only performer among us! We gladly sing the praises of God wherever people who don’t yet know Him may be. So far this has included the streets of Ashby, Shepshed, Loughborough and Coalville, Loughborough Hospital, a couple of nursing homes and Glen Parva Prison in Leicester.
Why we do it
We love to worship God for who He is. He has done so much in our lives we could praise him for eternity and still have things left to say! However the story doesn’t end there. God has a history of turning up when His praises are sung: In the Bible there is a story of two missionaries called Paul and Silas who, despite being unjustly thrown into prison, sang praises to God. As they do, God broke off their chains and those of the other prisoners who were listening! We believe God still turns up today whenever we give him the honour he deserves. Devoted stories
We have been privileged to see God do amazing things when we praise Him. Four people have committed themselves to following Jesus as a direct result of our work. One of these was an inmate at a local prison, Glen Parva. Interestingly, that’s where we have seen the biggest results. Last time we went, a couple of men said that they felt ‘warm all over’ when we sang. We get the chance to pray with them afterwards and share our story about Jesus. One Devoted singer felt she should give one inmate her cherished bible - he said it was the best thing that had ever happened to him. In other places we’ve had comments such as “it's enough to make you religious!”, and have seen people responding with tears rolling down their faces. Devoted CD: Songs of Hope
In November 2008, we released a CD, recorded at All Saints & Holy Trinity Church in Loughborough, containing some of our most popular songs. The CD is priced at £7.50 with the proceeds going to Rainbow Africa.
Want to join us?
The qualifications for joining Devoted are firstly a love for God – that you can ‘live the lyrics’, second that you love to worship God, and third that you can sing – in that order. The excellence we strive for is an excellence of heart - of purity of worship - rather than musical excellence. However we believe that musical excellence will follow as we devote ourselves to God in practice and praise. It's hard work and demands the discipline of weekly practice (every Thursday 7.45-9.45pm at the Schofield Centre), however the benefits outweigh the work we put in! |
